LightHouse School
Gaza City - Palestine
The Gaza Lighthouse School was established in 2004 with the purpose of providing quality education for needy families through sponsorship programs. The Lighthouse Elementary School is located in the heart of this conflict-torn, yet very strategic city. The 200 students from Kindergarten through 6th grade come from poor families and are provided the gift of a quality education. IDD designed a school expansion to double the capacity of the existing school to almost 400 students. This facility includes a large auditorium, classrooms and a computer lab, opening the door to a better future for many families. Quality design and planning is changing lives.
With the limitations of a tight site and geotechnical issues, a quality design requires clear understanding of the program needs of the school, and study of the master plan. Technical and conceptual design merged to produce an economic, practical and beautiful solution for the school facility needs.
The dedication of the new school facility, in August 2014, is a significant symbol for Gaza by providing real change and a hope for a better future.
