Cairo Evangelical Medical Center
Cairo, Egypt
The Cairo Evangelical Medical Center (CEMC) is a 10-story building in Ezbekia, a densely populated area near the center of Cairo. Located close to several major metro stops, CEMC may be easily accessed by a majority of the population in Cairo. The CEMC building is part of a larger site owned by the Synod of the Nile, which is the high council of the Presbyterian Church in Egypt. The larger site includes a church and administrative buildings. The existing church building has significant historical value as it was constructed in the 1850's and was the first Presbyterian Church in Cairo.
The leadership at CEMC desires to convert the existing building into a more functional and efficient medical center. Previous construction projects were completed at the medical center without any type of master plan or vision for the building as a whole. Additionally, the lower three floors of the building were originally constructed as accommodations/offices with only minor renovations made to these floors to convert them into a medical center. The purpose of this current project is to provide an accurate survey, or as-built drawings, of the entire building. This survey will then be utilized in a later project which will evaluate the building as a whole. The next project will look at the relationships between adjacent medical services and will provide recommendations for relocating existing services to make the building function more efficiently. The future project will also look specifically at the ground floor with the intent of providing an expanded emergency department and will consider how best to utilize the various spaces in the ground floor. The current project also includes a thorough evaluation of the existing electrical system along with recommendations for various electrical improvements throughout the building. |
